Trip to Shirdi and Ellora

In these blog I’m going to share my Shirdi trip which includes Ellora caves and Shani Shignapur.
I have actually planned to visit Shirdi on April 2018, but my cousins were unexpectedly told they are visiting early February. So I have planned to join them from Hyderabad and they are travelling from Vijayawada.
There are 4 stations near Shirdi and most of the trains from Hyderabad reach at Nagarsol station. Distance between following stations to Shirdi are
Sai nagar Shirdi – 3 Kms
Nagarsol – 41 Kms (approx. travel time 1hr through taxi)
Kopargoan – 18 Kms
Manmad – 58 Kms

Since our cousins are travelling from Vijayawada through Narasapur – Nagarsol Express we planned to join them. There are 2 alternates route origin from Narasapur to Nagarsol. One is through Khammam and Warangal (train no. 17213) and another through Guntur (17231). These train operate alternate days in alternate routes.

Day 1:
Our train reached at 8:30 AM on the morning on right time. From Nagarsol we waited for bus for few minutes but it didn’t come. So we planned to book taxi and they asked Rs.100 for each person. After bargain they agreed for Rs.80/- per person. They try to pack more people in one cab so that they can make more money. So make sure you have right bargain with right number of people. I will share my return experience later in these blog.  Total we have 37 people travelling, so we booked 2 toofan (14 each) and one Tata Ace for remaining 9 people. We started our journey at 9:00am.
We booked our stay at Kasi Annapurna Arya Vysaya choultry one month ago, the hotel is meant for our community. The hotel is on main road and 1Km away from temple.  We reached around 10:15 after we had short break for tea and light snack on the way. You can get good roadside hotel on the way. Which is cheap and tastier.
We finished our bath and had our lunch at Hotel. After lunch we started for Sai Darshan. There is lot of change in operation over the years. Now there a lot of facilities and managing the temple very well. From hotel we took the Auto to temple and they charged Rs.10/- per person. After reaching near to temple we handed over our mobiles in temple locker and then put our slippers in bag and handover in another counter.

There are multiple gates for various purpose. And we need to take biometric free pass to enter the temple. There is separate pass for senior citizen, so keep your Aadhar card ready to avail senior citizen pass. Darshan takes 15-20 minutes for senior citizens. We took our free biometric regular pass and entered the gate no.1. Total it took 1 hour to complete the darshan. Even though the crowd is less but we have to go through lengthy route all the way. Once you reach the final stage you will be split into 4 lines, 2 on right side and 2 on left side. So try to be extreme left or extreme right so that you can stay little longer near Sai Baba Mandir. After coming out of Darshan we took Prasad and visited the Sai Baba Museum and you can see the items used by Sai Baba.   We were out of temple at 4:00 pm.
After completing the sai baba darshan we planned for Shani Shignapur trip, we started our trip around 4:30 pm and location is 75kms from Shirdi and it takes approx. 1hr 30 minutes to 2 hours to reach the place. The roads are good and you can get various taxis where they charges Rs.120/- or Rs.150/- per person for to and fro trip. They taxis will stop the vehicle in certain dhaba’s where food is costly and poor quality. So we preferred not to get out of cab even though he stopped for food. I’m visiting the place after 12-15 years and the place gone through huge transformation and come up with proper site. After you get down the cab everyone try to sell many things, but I see people commonly offer oil and few leaves to god. So don’t go by sellers. We completed our darshan in 30 minutes and started return journey to Shirdi. On the way we stopped near road side Vada Pav shop, it was really good. We had vada pav, bread bhajji, pakoda each plate Rs.10/- and everyone had their tea or coffee. After short break we started again and reached Shirdi by 9:00 pm and had our dinner at hotel.
At the end of day 1 we have started looking for Ellora trip on day 2 and finding various travel option. We planned to book 17 seater vehicle. Ajanta and Ellora trip cost around 7800 and we have to start at 5:00am and come back by 9:00pm as the total trip distance is 500Km. since it will be hectic we planned for Ellora trip and they charged 3800/- for 17 seater.

Day 2:
The tour contains Grihneshwar Jyothirlingam, Ellora, Bhadra Maruti (Sleeping Hanuman) and Aurangabad Mini Taj Mahal.
We are excited for Ellora trip and started completed our breakfast by 8:00pm and waiting for vehicle, around 8:30 am vehicle arrive but it was disappointment. The vehicle was ugly and windows were not proper. So we asked the travel agent to give another proper vehicle or refund the deposit. After much argument we got our refund back. Now we started approaching other travels agents and we were able to book another vehicle. We put condition that if vehicle is not good we will send it back, fortunately we got good vehicle and calm driver.
We started our trip around 9:30am and reached 12:00pm at Grihneshwar Jyothirlingam. The roads between Ellora and Shirdi is not good, there is too many pot holes and also due to late start the air also become hot and our energy started draining.  We completed our darshan of Jyothirlingam and reached Ellora which is just 1 Km away.
Late start has big impact on our journey as we reached Ellora 1:00pm. The entrance ticket is Rs.15/- for Indians and Rs.500/- for Foreigners. No entry ticket for kid’s upto 15 years. There are 29 caves are they are very beautiful and lot of efforts have been put. It’s astonishing to see that the mountain has been converted into wonderful caves. It’s worth visit in life for Indian’s. No one knows how it was possible to build such big caves with ancient tolls. Many people say those caves are not built by humans.
So if you are planning for Ellora make sure you reach by 8:00 am or 9:00am so that you have enough time to visit all the caves. Also make sure you have enough energy as you have to walk for really long. Mobile battery won’t be enough to take photos, so prefer to have DSLR or digital camera.
After Ellora we reached Bhadra Maruthi which is 20 minute drive. The place was good crowd and we waited 15 minutes for Darshan. After Bhadra Maruthi we finished our lunch. The lunch was quite bad and we have to spend huge money for worst food. As always these are fixed places where drivers drop for food as they get their commission and get free food. Moreover people who serve is arrogant.

After that we went to Aurangabad Mini Taj Mahal and it’s now already 6:30 pm. Entrance charge is Rs.15/-. You can’t compare with Taj Mahal but it was built very good, so you can visit without any hesitation. We came back by 7:30pm and our vehicle tire got flat. So we have to wait for 1 hour for fixing the puncture and started back by 8:30pm. We informed driver not to stop anywhere for dinner as its getting delayed and reached 11:00pm midnight. And we had our dinner at Udipi food in main road at Shirdi. The food was good so we planned to make parcel for our train on next day.
Very hectic and tired day, had big impact on starting very late.

Day 3:
My wife got enough energy to have early morning darshan of Sai Baba, she visited the temple at 6:00am and came back by 6:45. We were started packing all our items, our train is at 11:15am 17214 NSL to NS. So we planned to start by 9:30am. We completed the breakfast on road side and visited Udipi hotel for lunch.
On the day of arrival the cab guys said they will come for drop and we were waiting for them. We got 1 toofan (14 seater) 1 tata ace and another tata sumo. They started requesting us to adjust 13 people in Tata sumo which we didn’t agree. We have contacted the other taxi operator and he sent the Force 14 seater for 1200/- from Shirdi to Narasapur. We started at 9:30am and reached 10:30 to Nagarsol. We boarded our return train.

Also note in these route lot of general tickets will board on the reserved compartment and they are arrogant. Also since its entire day journey your entire day will be lost in train with hot air. We reached Hyderabad at 11:15pm and getting cab’s for home at that time was very difficult as well. Somehow we managed to get our Ola & Uber taxi’s after 25 minutes wait. We are all exhausted but we had sai baba blessings and we enjoyed the trip and lo of lessons to be learned and newer experience in life.

Arjitha Vasanthostavam

Vasanthostavam

In these blog, I’m writing about daily Vasanthostavam performed in Tirumala, which will help devotes to plan accordingly.

Arjitha Vasanthotsavam is daily seva which is the abhishekam of the uthsava murtis performed daily at 2:30 to 3:00pm at Viabavotsava Mandapam (next to Ram Bhagicha) near temple. The Pooja is performed after Arjitha Brahmostavam. The cost of darshan is Rs.300/- per person and tickets can be booked online.

On the day of darshan, both Arjitha Brahmostavam & Vasanthostavam ticket holders are allowed at Viabavotsava Mandapam at 1:30pm, Vasanthostavam ticket holders are permitted to see Arjitha Brahmostavam & Vasanthotsavam. Arjitha Brahmostavam begins at 2:00pm where Malayipa swamy darshan given on Garuda Vahanam, Hanumantha Vahanam.

Initially Brahmostavam ticket holders are asked to seat in front and then Vasanthotsavam ticket holders are placed at back. After Brahmostavam is completed, the ticket holders are asked to report at Stupatam complex for darshan. Brahmostavam begins at 2:00pm and completes at 2:30pm.

Vasanthostavam begins at 2:30pm, ticket holders who asked to seat on the back will be asked to seat in front. The Abhishekam is performed for 1 hour after that pilgrims are asked to visit Stupatam counter for darshan. Approx. time it takes for darshan is 2 hours in Stupatam complex depending upon the crowd.  Usually they don’t perform check of your Aadhar card or proof, but it is necessary you carry the document you mentioned in ticket. Also kids upto 12 years are free for darshan, you can accompany them without any tickets.
After Lord Venkateswara darshan you can collect laddus at Laddu complex backside of temple.

You can book tickets online at ttdsevaonline.com under seva’s. You need to register with valid phone number & email. And you can give Aadhar number / Passport / Voter ID / Ration card number as reference.

Since you can have both Arjitha Brahmostavam and Vasanthostavam together, I would definitely recommend these darshan, these is even better than normal daily Rs.300/- speed darshan.

Wonderla Hyderabad

In these blog i'm writing about our trip to Wonderla Hyderabad. Wonderla recently opened its Testament park in Hyderabad located at Ravirala adjacent to Outer ring road between Adibhatla & RGI Airport.

The park opens between 11:00am to 6:00pm on week days and up to 7:00 pm on weekends and holidays. As there was special offer going on the price for Adults were Rs.790/- and for Kids Rs.640. Normal price Rs.890 for Adults and Rs.710 for Kids.

Travel to park: As I didn't have car, I booked Ola cabs for To & Fro and started my journey at 9:30 am and reached by 11:00 am. For Return, Ola disappointed by cancelling my booking at last minute. I was worried how to reach home as there are no cabs nearby and already RTC bus left. 2 RTC buses operats one from Koti Women college and another to Jublie bus stand. But found that there are private buses operate from Park to LB Nagar for Rs.22. Also park provides free drop to Turkaymjal. From Turkaymjal you can get buses and autos to reach LB Nagar.

Our return journey was really good and nothing as worried. We took free bus from park to Turkaymjal, and from mjal we took share auto that drop to LB Nagar for Rs.15 per person, and from LB Nagar to Uppal we took RTC bus as it was empty and auto stopped just there. From Uppal we took Ola for home.  So within less than 90 minutes we reach home at Mallapur.

About our Wonderla experience
We traveled on cloudy weekend and reached park exactly at 11:00am and paid for our tickets through CC. As the tickets on special price there are no discounts for college students. But if its normal price you can get 20% discount for students by producing college id card. Staff we very friendly. There are around 43 rides of these 18 are water rides, 9 Kids ride, 10 land rides, 6 thrill rides. I felt very less kids rides if you have kids are at small age but they can enjoy lot on water rides.

As it was cloudy day the not much crowded, within 1 hour we took atleast 5 rides by 5:00pm we completed most of the rides. As our cab we scheduled at 7:00pm we took some rest and gone for second round for few rids :). For water games you need to have polyester costume for sure, you can get dress inside the park shops for women t-shirt Rs.200 and shorts for 240. Also they provide locker facility to store your valuables for Rs.200 as charge. Also they don't allow outside food, so avoid it.

Food: You can get various foods like Kwality Ice creams, frooti, Lays also you have 3 restaurants and food was good at nominal price. We got birayani for Rs.160 which was decent quality and quantity. Also roti & panner curry for Rs.120/-.

Overall entire family enjoyed the day trip to wonderla.

London to Scotland Trip (3 day trip)

Hi All,

In this blog I'm sharing my experience and providing some guidance on my travel from London to Scotland during May 2015.

I planned to visit Scotland on 2014 but couldn't make it somehow, this time I don't want to miss it. I was initially planning to go through Tours as they provide Veg food and also they will plan everything but after looking into itinerary it seems not so good as half of the time operated by tours is lost on bus travel from London.

Hence I was looking for some other option and then my friend recommend the site call superbreak.com they are leading providers of Hotel Rooms at decent price apart from that they do provide train tickets and other sight seeing tickets as well.

Considering travel time we planned for 3 day trips (Starting Friday morning and returning on Sunday Evening).

For 2 Adults & 2 kids, SuperBreak offered me package for £632 which includes Train Tickets, 2 Nights & 3 day stay and Sight seeing
  • To & Fro tickets from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley station through Virgin Trains (more details below)
  • 2 Days & 3 Night stay at Holiday Inn with Break fast along one day compliment dinner.
  • Timberbush tours

    • Over view of Train tickets
      • To & Fro tickets from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley station
      • SuperBreak sends confirmed train tickets via First class mail delivery, still no online delivery not available
      • Waverley station is the main station in Edinburgh, the station is at center of the city similar to Kings cross
      • These trains are operated by Virgin Trains
      • The tickets with open return tickets (except non peak hours). You can book tickets during peak hours as well with additional charge.
      • The return ticket is valid for return within 30 days
      • They do provide reservation option during booking but its not necessary you need to travel on booked train (unless you have chosen fixed ticket)
      • Usual journey times is 4 hours with train operating for every half-hour.
      • If your boarding for final destination then you can handover luggage at the beginning of train
      • Also superbreak provides tour document along the tickets. These tickets are valid only with tour documents. So keep them along the tickets.

    Day 1:
We started around 7:30am from our house in Ilford and reached King Cross Stations around 8:30am. There was long walk inside the King Cross station from TFL to National services. And Kings Cross is quite big station and very nice old architecture. Also kings cross hosts 8 3/4 platform from Harry Potters. After reaching to platform, at the beginning of train Virgin staff asked us whether we are for Edinburgh when we said they offered to collect baggage and hand over at Edinburgh station (like Airports). We were not sure but we handover the luggage (mistakenly the luggage contains ready to eat food which we missed, but it was quite handy after reaching to Edinburgh). The train was full but as we already booked seats we need not to find the free seats. Train started on time at 9:00am and reached Edinburgh at 13:30.

After coming out of station I wasn't sure where should I board bus for the Hotel, we walked wrong route initially for 10 minutes but bus operator suggested us the right place to board. After little walk we found there bus operating company and they provided details guide and map. And then we walked further for bus stop but we are not sure which side we need to board. We actually standing on wrong side but as soon as bus we have to run :-( which didn't look good. But the bus actually stopped just before the hotel which was good. We checked in hotel around 2:30pm and we have asked hotel staff whether we can move the compliment dinner from Friday Night to Saturday night they said fine. This was useful as we already have some food with us which we ate at night.

Holiday Inn City west was not as good as Marriot which we stayed in Birmingham. They don't offer free wifi service, when we enquired they suggested to be membership (which was free) and got subscribed. Even after subscription it didn't work easily have to call reception and they need to call support to fix it.

After check in and we took little rest for hour are so and then we are back to Edinburgh town (bus is for every 10 minutes and travel time was around 15 minutes. I initially wanted to start with Royal Mile but my wife was not interested but we went to castle and then to Camera Obscura (near beginning of Castle). It was worth visit both my wife and kids enjoyed really lot. Don't miss it. Please carry train tickets as they offer bargain for tickets if you have traveled via trains. Luckily I had tickets in my pocket they give tickets at discounted price. Also at the top of Camera Obscura you can see almost entire Edinburgh and they provided various binoculars to view it for free. After camera Obscura we had little walk around the castle and took our bus back to room. Was really long long day and very tired.

I will try to cover my day 2 in my next blog.

Day 3: We were tired again with our timberbush tours and had very good sleep. We went for breakfast had good food and then back to room and took some rest. Initially we planned to check out early and keep luggage at reception, but it don't sound well for me as we need to again comeback to hotel to pick our luggage. Hence we took some rest and checked out around 12:00pm. As we already having day bus pass, we went around the city, took my first tram journey in life, we went up and down on trams (you can use same pass for trams except for Airport drops). Then we gone through some high street shopping market and then to Royal mile. At the end of the Royal mile took wrong bus and went to the end of the city (but good sight seeing) then took bus and reached to Waverley station around 3:00pm. Then took train for London and that's the end of the trip.

Jet Airways - Mumbai / Bombay Transit (International to national) and vice versa

I'm writing this blog to share my recent transit experience in Mumbai airport. I recently traveled from London to Hyderabad (India) through Jet Airways. Mumbai and Delhi is common transit airport for Jet Airways in India.

While travelling from London to Hyderabad (Transfer from International to Domestic Airport)

    • Reached Mumbai at 11:15 AM
    • From terminal to Immigration its really long walk (almost 500m walk, but there will help cars available) (10 minutes walk)
    • Immigration 10 minutes (you need to fill form if you are Indian Passport holder
    • After Immigration we need to collect our baggage (Check In Baggage), this is the most time consuming. I have to wait for almost 25 minutes at baggage counter to get my suitcases.
    • After collecting check-in suitcases there will be security check for Hand luggage only. (5-10 mts)
    • After that customs clearance. We need to hand over the form which was filled with Immigration Authorities stamp on it. (< 1 minute)
    • As soon as customs is done, immediately on right side you can handover the Check in luggage to Jet Airways counter for Internal Transit. Note: Liquor is not allowed as hand luggage in domestic flights, hence if you have purchased any liquor in Duty Free shop try to adjust the same in your check in luggage. (10 minutes)
    • If the transit time is less than 2 hours usually you don't go to domestic airport. You will directly get into Domestic flight via steps.
    • After handing over the check-in luggage at Jet Airways transfer counter there will be another security check this is for Domestic flights check-in (10 minutes)
    • After security check for transfer to Domestic flight, Jet Airways as asked us to wait for few minutes at specific place. Then they arranged bus which will take only Hyderabad passengers. They are arranging separate buses for each destination.
    • The bus dropped directly outside where the domestic flight is located and we get inside the flight via steps (didn't went inside the domestic airport) (10 minutes).
So key points - Immigration, collect check-in luggage, customs, transfer desk to handover check in luggage, security check and flight. Minimum time required 1 hour.

By the time I get in to Hyderabad flight is almost 1:00pm (This is because all of the Hyderabad transfer were asked to wait). So it almost took me around 75 minutes from getting out from International flight to domestic flight. But what I found out is that if the time gap is less, then Jet Airways will try to fasten the steps as they will be available at every step to expedite (only for those who have less time on connecting flight). In general if you have transit time anywhere between 90 minutes and above that would be sufficient. (This is based on my experience twice).

Update on Aug 2016: I travelled again from London to Hyderabad via Mumbai through Jet airways on July 2016, with recent update there is no need to travel between International to domestic airport. After custom exit within internal stair case or lift you can connect to main airport again and from there you go for domestic security. No need to travel between airports as state above.

While travelling from Hyderabad to London (Transfer from Domestic to International Airport)
On return flight to London, Mumbai was transit point again and this time I reached Mumbai at 23:15 and my flight to London was at 1:45am
    • You handover Check-in Luggage at starting point. In my case handover at Hyderabad and collect in London, no need to collect and transfer manually in Mumbai
    • After arriving in Mumbai, while getting down from flight staff asked to wait all the transfer separately. Didn't get inside the domestic airport again.
    • They arranged bus which goes to International airport. This time though your will be completely come out of airport and get into main entrance of International Airport
    • Bus will drop outside the entrance counter
    • You need to show tickets & Passport to security to get inside the Airport (Either e-ticket in mobile or paper tickets, they will check ticket name and passport name matches).
    • After getting inside the Airport you don't need to get into check-in counter, Jet Airways staff will check your passport, ticket and valid visa and put a sticker with signature that they validated (will be used later)
    • After that security check (really very long queue), there are too many flights from Mumbai and the queue is considerable long (again if there is no enough time staff arrange separate line for those people).
    • Then Immigration again long queue (but quite fast)
    • Then to gates (again long walk).
    • In general it took me 45 minutes for me from getting to Mumbai and reaching to international departure gates.
    Overall Jet Airways review:
I'm not great reviewer, but in my experience Jet AIrways offers less price (atleast difference in 100 quids) compare to leading airways like Emirates, BA & Other leading companies from Middle East. In past I traveled via BA & Emirates more often.
    • Staff - They are friendly and helpful
    • Luggage - Very decent allowance from London it was
      • 2 bags x 23 Kgs check-in luggage
      • 1 Hand luggage upto 8 kgs &
      • 1 Laptop bag or Hand bag
    • Food - Since I was veg it was quite good Indian food (in other ways I need to explicitly insist for Veg, here its easy to get). Food was good
    • Seat space - Its ok as any other economy class
Overall it was good experience on my travel with Jet Airways, nothing to complain.
